The Saints Win the League of Legends Championship

St. Louis, Mo. – The Maryville University eSports team took on University of Toronto in the League of Legends National Championship finals.

How It Happened: Maryville started out with a lead after giving up first blood in the top lane in the first game. Maryville's bot lane secured their own solo kill and snowballed their lead after taking a 6 minute turret. Things went bad when they attempted to invade at UOT's red buff and lost 3. UOT eventually capitalized on their hyper carry and closed out the game to take the first game of the best of 5 grand finals.

Game 2: Maryville started out with another commanding lead. This time they opted for a team fight comp to ensure that their early game strength would transition to the late game. Prototype and CKG were on fire and both went deathless to take game 2.

Game 3: Maryville played the same strategy as it appeared that Toronto was unable to adapt. Maryville took their early advantages once again to snowball into a victory. Prototype this game once again went deathless while seguing down turrets for the third game in a row on Caitlyn.

Game 4: Maryville was targeted with multiple jungle bans therefore Walrus was forced onto a pocket pick Nidalee. Early leads came from mid and bot lane once again and in the final moments Walrus picked up an unbelievable pentakill to close out the series and become the 2017 League of Legends Collegiate Champions.

Quotable: Top, Tony "Saskio" Chau
"Back at Maryville, I hope that everyone's very proud of us and very happy. Me, I'm feeling very tired but very ecstatic."

What It Means: Maryville becomes both the first team from the U.S. and the first scholarship varsity eSports program to win the championship. Maryville finishes the season in University League of Legend sets 115-4.
